Mike and Family,

My grandmother wrote in a family book that when I was born, I was a "weak baby", but your dad delivered me.

After a complete blood transfusion from my Aunt Roberta Sandvik, and about a month in the hospital, I finally made it home thanks to your father.

May "Doc" watch over your family the rest of their lives.

Dr Skjei, father of one of my best friends forever... Jeannie ! Kay, Jean and Mike! Your precious father and mother shared their home, family and practice with so many ! What a blessing to the Williston community! I know that the Lord prepared Dr. Skjei’s home in heaven with Avis! My heart is sad as I remember both of your parents as I shared a childhood in your home. Good memories. May the Lord bless each one of you as go through this loss of a dear dear man of God. Your memories are full of great love that you shall carry forever. Love , prayers and God’s blessing to all. Nancy Jane Wallace (Slater )

Ann and I express our deep sympathies for your loss. Shortly after my appointment to CEO at Mercy, we named Don to a full-time position as Vice President; and he became my mentor. Avis and Don accepted us to the Williston community with their warm hearts. Perhaps he told you about the time, he says, that he almost gave his life for Mercy (after chocking on a piece of meat while we entertained a guest physician??). Wonderful friend! Be at peace.

Dear Kay, Jeanie, and Mike,
Uncle Don was an ever-smiling Uncle who personified the word "Kind". I know he is tenderly watching over you and happily dancing or going fishing with Aunt Avis.
My heartfelt sympathy to you,
Love, Carol

I have been thinking and wondering about Dr. Skjei - remembering him as the doctor for my two girls - 1968 & 1970. He was very good with them. We moved to Idaho and then to Oregon....we surely missed our good doctor. Much love and sympathy goes to the family.

I can’t remember not knowing Dr. Skjei. In my early years, he was my doctor. As I aged I always enjoyed greeting him at church and watched his love and compassion during the time Avis struggled. He had a long and accomplished life. Sending my sympathies, hugs and prayers for the family.

What a wonderful picture of him. Lots of good memories-especially of him coming to our house to give us shots and hiding from him behind the couch. His voice is something I will always remember. He lead a good life with an awesome family.

1Don and Avis were such wonderful people. Our mother, Norma Maristuen, is Don's cousin and we loved to listen to the two of them reminisce of their childhood when she came to visit.
Our sympathies to the Skjei family.

Dear Kay, Mike, Jean and families,
Grace and peace, now, as your Dad is finally “home” in Heaven to join Avis and Steve. He had a long struggle and we watched you all as you loved and cared for him over all these years. Now we celebrate his life well lived as he served so many people in Williston over the years. We also celebrate his love of God, family and country. Rest In peace, dear neighbor and friend and may angels be with you on your journey.

My prayers and condolences go out to Kay and the Skjei family. Don and Avis were great neighbors. I saw Don's sweetness and tenderness towards Avis in her last days at home as Don took her for a walk every day. He was a very great man.

My sympathy on Don's passing, he will be missed by all who knew him. Loved his great smile and dry wit which came in to surprise me many times. A most professional man who always had a smile of encouragement.
Proud to have known him

I first worked with Dr. Skjei at the Good Samaritan Hospital. I was a new grad and he kind of scared me at times! He certainly was a good doctor and I learned alot from him...maybe the hard way !!!! When I joined Mercy after Good Sam closed, he was the only doctor that asked how I was doing....He really did care about us nurses. Thoughts and prayers for the whole family.
