Mary Enget Harmon, 72, of Crestview, Florida, formerly of Bainville, Montana, passed away on March 4, 2017 at Spokane, Washington. Cremation has taken Place.
Mary Enget Harmon was born May 9, 1944 the daughter of Harry and Catherine Enget at Powers Lake, ND.
Mary grew up in Donnybrook, ND and graduated from Minot High School. She graduated from North Dakota State University in 1966 with a degree in science and home economics. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority and enjoyed her time at the Phi Mu house.
After college, Mary taught in Bainville, Montana where she met her husband. They married in 1968 and Mary spent several years as a stay at home mother. She worked intermittently in social services in Williston, Minot and Omaha, Nebraska and spent many hours as a CASA volunteer. When her husband was transferred from Germany to Spokane with his civil service career, Mary took the opportunity to return to school at Gonzaga University where she obtained a Master’s degree in special education. It was a natural fit for her.
Mary’s passion was always her family and children. Her nieces and nephews never knew a better story teller (who also baked for them and was a master seamstress) and there are parents of autistic children who said, “she could teach a rock to read”. She taught in Spokane and again in Florida where they lived until she retired from teaching and her husband retired from his civil service career. They moved back to Spokane in 2016 and remained there until the time of her death.
Mary is survived by her husband Thomas, her sons Larry of Germany, Robert (Robin) of Mead, Washington and her son Michael of Crestview, Florida and four grandchildren. Mary is also survived by three sisters: Arlis (Louie) of San Antonio, Texas; Bonnie of Wichita, Kansas and Ellen (John) of Hillman, Minnesota.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Enget and Catherine Enget. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
