On October 16, 1955 he was united in marriage to Ardyth Jenner in Alexander. Charlie served in the U.S. Army and while serving in Oklahoma at Fort Sill the couple welcomed their first child, Ann. Upon his discharge, they returned to Alexander where they welcomed their second child, Lowell.
Charlie worked for various Chevrolet dealers in Watford City including Tank Chevrolet, Dakamont Motors, Eklund Brothers, and Hoffman Chevrolet. In the fall of 1976, he purchased Charlie’s Service in Arnegard which he owned and operated with his family until 2015, when his son, Lowell, took over the business. Charlie enjoyed working and during the gas shortage he was forced to work only 6 days a week instead of 7 because he didn't have gas to sell.
