Clarence Olson, 84, of Williston, passed away at CHI St. Alexus Medical Center in Williston on Wednesday morning, September 20, 2017.
Clarence L. Olson was born on January 1, 1933 to Ed and Mabel (Johnson) Olson in Williston. He was raised and educated in the Williston area. At a young age, Clarence started working on the farm with his dad.
Clarence served during the Korean War in the United States Air Force from 1951 until his discharge in 1955. He was stationed in Alaska as a Radio Operator.
Clarence was united in marriage to Sharon Mengel on September 22, 1956 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Williston. They lived in San Diego, California for a short while before moving back to Williston where they established their home and raised their family.
He worked for General Diesel before starting his 30 year career as a service technician at Montana Dakota Utilities, retiring in 1993. He always said, he was busier in retirement than when he was working full time. Clarence worked hard to support his family.
Clarence loved flying, and at a young age, he and his brother Kenny purchased an airplane together. He belonged to the Mooney Club, which was a club for airplane enthusiasts. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and playing cards.
Clarence is survived by; his five children, Darvin Olson, Vicki Moline, Aldon (Laura) Olson, Tara Olson and Jason (Stacy Heard) Olson, all of Williston, ND; eight grandchildren, Shawn Thoring, Jeff Overman, Josh Overman, Kendra Taylor, Mandi Olson, Tyler Theil, Meghan (Devin) Kvernum and Chance Theil; three great-grandchildren, Michael Overman, Scarlett Kvernum and Addy Kvernum; his siblings, Irene Hillstead, Elvin (Pati) Olson, Marion (Arvine) Olson, Kenny (Pat) Olson and Maxine Nelson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mabel Olson; his wife, Sharon Olson; two children, Kirk Olson and Vonda Olson; siblings, Jim Olson, Morris Olson, Floyd Olson and Helene Diedrich.
