Fawn “Elaine” James, 66, of Ray, North Dakota, passed away Thursday morning, October 12, 2017 at her home in Ray, ND.
Elaine was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on February 24th 1951, to Troy and Helena Vaughn. She spent much of her younger years growing up in California with her large family to whom she was fiercely devoted, and even helped with raising younger siblings.
During her time in California, she had four beautiful children. Her determination to graduate high school led her to earning her diploma as a single mother.
As luck would have it, she met the love of her life Stephen James at the car wash while he was working. They completed their family on January 22nd 1977. Shortly after their marriage began, she enlisted for service in the Air Force. This was the result of a challenge from her father. When she returned home after traveling with the military, she worked as a nurses aid at the St. Bernadine Medical center.
1985 opened a new chapter for the family in North Dakota, which eventually brought them to Williston. She attended college seeking a nursing degree. She had the pleasure of joining Stephen on the open road and worked various jobs, before finding her true calling helping the Opportunity Foundation at the 8th street location where she worked for 18 years. In the summer of 2016, she moved to Ray, ND to be closer to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In her spare time, when she wasn't with family, she enjoyed being creative, crochet, solving puzzles, playing games, reading, watching movies and her favorite TV show, Criminal Minds. When she could, she loved to sneak away to play bingo and test her luck at keno.
Recently her lifelong dream of visiting Hawaii was fulfilled. She also took the great-grandchildren on an adventure around the country. A journey she had previously made with the grandchildren.
Surviving Elaine are her siblings; Her son Robert "Red" Childers, his daughter Angelle, his granddaughter Ellie; Her son Reginald "Reggie" Childers, his children Domonique, Brianna, Jasmine, Damian and Kloe; Her daughter Regina "Gina" and Tony Scott, their children Samantha, Heaven, Troy and Roseanna their children Selean, Saphira, Serentity, and Alaric.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother; her husband; infant son Roger Childers; brothers and sisters; granddaughter Amanda Childers; and her beloved dog Pika.
Her selfless compassion for others, her warm hugs, and the way her laughter filled the room will live on in our hearts forever...
