Mark Chaney, 64, of Williston, passed away Friday morning, October 27, 2017 at CHI Saint Alexius Medical Center in Williston.
Mark Allen Chaney Sr. was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on December 16, 1952 to Robert and Vivian (Huff) Chaney. He was raised and educated in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Mark married Margaret (Peggy) Mary Shinall on March 8th, 1972 in Van Nuys, California. While living in California in the 1970’s and up to 1982, he worked for an auto shop called Mark C. Bloom and also an auto shop where he bragged about meeting John Wayne. He moved his family to North Dakota in 1982 and worked for Kelch’s Auto Repair. In 1985 he started his own auto repair shop, Chaney’s Total Auto. He also purchased Basin Cab Company, which he owned for fifteen years, then sold it. Mark’s other businesses include Northland Graphics, and Un Real RC.
Mark was active in the Williston community being a member of the Williston Rifle and Pistol Club. He enjoyed building guns. He was a member of the NRA. He was also a proud member of the ND Tow Association. Mark loved his bulldogs, Archie and Lucy. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, playing war games on the computer, and 8 ball pool online.
Preceding Mark in death are his father, Robert; and mother, Vivian.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; son, Mark Chaney Jr. (Mandy Hanson), daughter, Susan (Donavan) Hazen all of Williston; brother, Wayne Chaney; sister, Lynn Armstrong; six grandchildren; and one and 1/2 great- grandchildren.
