Rose E. Slette
January 2, 1929 - November 1, 2017

Place of Birth : McKenzie County, North Dakota
Residence : Williston, North Dakota
Age : 88

Rose Emma (Cox) Slette, 88, a longtime Williston resident, passed away Wednesday morning, November 1, 2017 at CHI Saint Alexius Williston. Rose went to be with the Lord and her loving husband Thorfin on All Saints Day, surrounded by her loving family.

Rose was born on January 2, 1929 in McKenzie County to James and Anna (McCauley) Cox, the youngest of 8 children. She was raised and completed her educated in Williston.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Thorfin Slette, on November 8, 1951 at First Lutheran Church in Williston. They made their first home on a farmstead east of Williston before moving into town in 1958. Family meant everything to Rose. Their "house became a home" in 1959 when they adopted Paullette, Peter in 1961, and in 1963 David was born to them. The kids always joked that Polly and Peter were "chosen" and that they had to keep Dave whether they wanted to or not!

Just when she thought things couldn't get any better, along came the grandkids and made her life complete. She had the privilege of caring for them and being in their lives daily. She was often seen in the gym, at the rink, or at the baseball field cheering on her grandbabies. Her great grandson Amari came along shortly before Thorfin passed, and helped her through many difficult days. She fondly and lovingly referred to him as her "sunshine."

A harder worker one could not find. She had many odd jobs over the years, from delivering the paper before getting her kids to school, to cleaning the clinic, waitressing at the Luzon Cafe, and being the cook and secretary at Wilkinson Elementary where her children attended school. No job was more important to her than being a "stay at home mom" to her children.

Rose was a charter member of Gloria Dei and very active in the church. She taught Sunday school and later became the superintendent, directed the church choir and organized many Christmas programs over the years. She also helped organize the yearly Lincoln Tea and was very active in the Sons of Norway, despite her being an Irishmen!

She is survived by her three children; Polly (Mike) Vinger of Williston, Peter Slette of Easton, Maryland, and Dave (Carla) Slette of Bismarck; five grandchildren, Chelsey Vinger, Kris Vinger, Zach Slette, Cayli Slette, and Paydin Slette; great grandson and her sunshine Amari Michael; numerous nieces and nephews; and her grand-dogs Harley, Lola, Charlie, and Oshie.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years Thorfin; her parents, James and Anna Cox; four brothers, George, James, LeRoy, and Floyd (Pete); three sisters, Kate Vaughn, Ellen Sinness, and Ann Roberts; her grand-dogs Zeus and Mojo.
