Jean Krenz, 82, of Rural Tioga, North Dakota and Nicholasville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday evening, November 25, 2017 at her home in Kentucky.
She was born on August 19, 1935, to Inez and Lloyd Dillon, and was raised on a farm in Round Prairie Township, ND. Jean graduated from Williston High School. Upon graduation, Jean and her sister, Dorothy, moved to Portland, OR.
Jean married Darwin Krenz in Portland, OR in 1956. They moved back to North Dakota where they ranched and raised six children. Jean had a knack for buying and selling real estate, owned rentals, and for many years she owned the town of Sanish.
Jean was known for her hospitality. She opened her home to all. In a recent conversation, she was asked why she did this. Her reply was "I just like people". She was a mother to so many kids around the neighborhood. Always ready to set another place at the table or make up a bed. She made a true difference in those children's lives. She did not just feed and house them, but guided them by word and example. Some of these examples were that she never talked ill of anyone and she never complained, even though the years after her stroke provided her with many opportunities and excuses to do so. She kept moving ahead with conviction and tenacity. Age could not break down her beauty inside and out. She was classy right up to the end. Mom died with her pearls on and her hair and make-up just right.
We were truly blessed to have her as a mother. Her guidance will live on for generations through our family and the people she touched. We are so proud to have her as our mother.
Jean was an interested and active member of the community.
Jean is survived by her husband, of 61 years, Darwin Krenz; her children, Vanneisa (David), Julie (Paul), Celeste (Bill), Courtney (Debbie), Bradley (Karen); fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Vachel and brother, Robert Dillon.
Preceding Jean in death were her parents; her daughter, Charmaine, and sister, Dorothy.
