Janice Mae “Jan” Thue, 70, passed from this earth into the kingdom of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 9, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Williston, ND.
Jan was born March 2nd, 1947 in Minot, ND to Kenneth and Emma (Lee) Johnson. She was raised on a farm near Carpio, ND where she learned the values of family, hard work and serving God and her community. Jan graduated from Carpio High School in 1965 and went on to attend dental assistant school in Minneapolis, MN. She moved to Williston in 1966 to work for Dr. George Hegge, and during this time met and married Ronald D. Thue. They made their home in Williston together for 50 years until Ron’s passing in July 2017.
Jan was employed by the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Williston for 27 years, first as an assistant in the Chamber, then Administrative Assistant to the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau as well as the manager of the National Guard Armory. Her favorite part of her job was helping to plan Band Day every year and also working on the Roughrider International Art Show. Jan also enjoyed her many years singing with Entertainment Inc. Jan was active in the community of Williston and in the churches she attended. She was a member of Toastmasters and enjoyed the skills she learned there and the friends she made. Throughout her years in Williston, she was a member of First Lutheran Church, Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church and for the last 20 years, Light of Christ Lutheran Church. Most important in Jan’s life was to serve God. She fulfilled a life of ministry through participating and leading Bible studies, mentoring friendship circles, serving on church council, and in her last years at Bethel, she ministered and witnessed to the other residents and the staff whom she loved.
Jan is survived by her daughters Rachel (Steve) Simonson of Billings, MT and Sarah (Karl) Carlson of Mandan ND; her grandchildren Andrew, Maren and Annika Carlson of Mandan; her siblings Rodger (Janelle) Johnson of Lincoln NE, Sharon (Darryl) Strube, Bill (Darlene) Johnson, and Susan (Dwight) Burkhart all of Minot and twin sister Joyce (Jerry) Hansen, Alexandria, MN; many nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Jeanie Thue of Park Rapids, MN. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Emma, her brother Jerry, and her husband Ron.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Bethel Lutheran Foundation in honor of the loving caregivers, employees and board members who made Bethel a wonderful place for Jan and Ron to live out their lives or to Central Dakota Children’s Choir in Bismarck, ND as Jan loved music and the music education CDCC provided to her grandchildren.
The Everson Coughlin Funeral Home of Williston is caring for the family.
