Lanny Holgerson, 70, of Williston, North Dakota, passed away Saturday morning, December 30, 2017 at his home in Williston.
Lanny was born January 25, 1947 to Paul and Evelyn (Edwards) Holgerson in Williston, North Dakota. He attended grade and high school in Alamo, ND graduating in 1965.
He Joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 serving aboard the USS DeHaven and USS Benner during the Vietnam era. He was discharged in 1970.
Lanny married Cathy Viig on August 6, 1971 then moving to Wahpeton, ND where he attended NDSSC for two years graduating from Sheet Metal and Heating and Cooling. Following graduation he moved to Williston where his son Randy was born in May of 1973.
He started work upon graduation at Cenex in the Sheet Metal Department working there for five years. He then worked for Mon-Dak Heating and Plumbing until his retirement in 2012. He worked at Mon-Dak Heating, with a great group of people for 34 years.
Lanny became involved in Boy Scouts when his son joined and he continued on with it, becoming Scout Master of Troop 368 in 1998 until 2013 when he said someone younger needs to take over. He was very active going on many 50 mile hikes in Glacier Park and Bob Marshall Wilderness. They also did canoe trips in Minnesota and Montana.
He belonged to Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge, American Legion, V.F.W. and was a recent member of the Williston Honor Guard.
Lanny is survived by his wife Cathy; his son, Randy; two grandchildren, Jasmine and Jameson Holgerson. He is also survived by his brothers, Steve of Alamo, ND and Ellis of Seattle, WA.
Lanny was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Evelyn; his brother, Brian; his sister, Pam Werlinger; brother-in-law, Gary Werlinger and sister –in-law Marla Holgerson.
The Everson Coughlin Funeral Home of Williston is caring for the family.
His funeral will be celebrated Friday afternoon, January 5, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Williston. Rev. Steve Lundblom will officiate.
Friends may call at the Everson Coughlin Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM and at the church on Friday for the hour preceding the funeral service.
Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery in Williston.
