Kermit Heen, of Williston, North Dakota, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Wednesday morning, January 10, 2018 at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Williston.
Kermit was born November 16, 1920, to Lars and Theoline (Nordby) Heen. He was raised on the family farm south of Tioga. He completed an associate’s degree from Minot State College. Kermit then went to work in Williston where he met Nina Endres. They were married on March 9, 1943 in Williston. They would have been celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary this March.
Kermit was a devout Catholic serving on the St. Joseph Catholic Church Board of Trustees and the University of Mary Board of Regents. He was a fraternal member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks and Moose. Kermit was a good friend of Jesus.
Kermit and Nina enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and traveling in their motor home. They spent many winters in Arizona. Kermit loved the farm, milking cows, raising beef cattle and planting and harvesting small grains.
Kermit is survived by his wife, Nina Heen; one daughter, Sharon (Jim) Wilson of Bismarck, ND; three sons, Kenneth Heen of Williston, ND; Larry (Linda) Heen of Alexander, ND; Gregory (Deann) Heen of Buford, ND; seventeen grandchildren, Robert (Pam) Heen of Des Moines, IA; Catherine (Travis) Johnson of Maple Grove, MN; Jackie (Dale) Plessas of Minot, ND; Michael (Dena) Heen, of Sartell, MN; Matthew (Brie) Heen of Spring Hill, TN; Keith (Julie) Wilson of West Fargo, ND; Beth (Ray) Longo of Apple Valley, MN; Ryan (Kim) Wilson of Bismarck, ND; Sara (Jerome) Richter of Bismarck, ND; Jason (Jana) Heen of Bismarck, ND; Jeremy (Krista) Heen of Alexander, ND; Melissa (Jed) Rider of Alexander, ND; Alicia (Stewart) Kline of Alexander, ND; Anne-Marie (Craig) Balcer of Alexander, ND; Jacob Heen of Sidney, MT; Mark (Kayla) Heen of Buford, ND; Katie Heen of Bozeman, MT; 55 great grandchildren; sister, Muriel Leach of Wibaux, MT; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lars and Theoline Heen, daughter-in-law Dianne Heen and grandson Andrew Heen.
