Michael Robert Martin, 31, of Williston, passed away at his home surrounded by his family, on Friday Afternoon, August 3, 2018.
Michael Robert Martin was born to Robert and Beverly (Bjerke) Martin in Williston, North Dakota on April 17, 1987. He was raised in Williston, Glenwood, Minnesota and in Trenton. He attended school in Glenwood and Trenton, graduating from Trenton high School.
Currently, Michael was employed as supervisor for Sunland Field Services. Previously, he worked as a roustabout at Alpha Roustabout. He also worked at Williston Woodworks and his high school years were spent working as a cook at Dakota Farms.
Michael’s most prized possessions called him Daddy; he loved spending time with his sons, Sawyer and Damon. Michael also loved spending time with the love of his life, LaCee, and her two children Sammy and Ranae. He also surrounded himself in memories made with his Mom, Dad, two sisters, three beautiful nieces Tegan, Aria, and Oliva, and nephew to be.
The three qualities that Michael wanted to be remembered for were that he was extremely family oriented, a very hardworking provider, and strong loving protector.
Michael also had a love for fishing that was shared by all. However, he seemed to spend more time rigging up poles for everyone else than actually fishing himself. He loved to garden and feel like he was one with nature. This was his first year he used his new greenhouse he found great peace working on it. He grew vegetables so that he could share the harvest with his friends and family. His goal for planting so many gourds, pumpkins, and corn stalks this year was to decorate the house more than it ever has been, for fall and Halloween, and to make a scarecrow family. He even set up and tended to a special plot so that his son Sawyer could have a garden of his own.
Halloween was Michael’s favorite holiday. He found enjoyment in having the scariest costumes and loved to decorate the house so that everyone could enjoy and join him in the spirit of the day. Michael also enjoyed woodworking. His love for woodwork came while employed at Williston Woodworks. One of his most prized projects was the fireplace and entertainment center that he built for the community room at Williston State College. His most recent project was a crib that he was fixing up for his sister Leah’s unborn son. He was so proud to finally have his first nephew and worked until the late hours of the night in hopes of finishing it before he had to go back to work.
Michael also indulged in his creative side by creating many different types of drawings and artwork with his boys and for his loved ones. He was an excellent cook and always wanted to have BBQs, so that his friends and family could gather around. No one ever went away hungry. He felt prideful of the compliments given about his cooking. He also loved to take his camper out to Blacktail. Camping was a time for all to enjoy the healing nature of the outdoors and he never went alone. Before he passed, he had been planning a big family trip to South Dakota and Yellowstone National Park.
One of his favorite pastimes was riding his motorcycle. Every chance Michael could get, you could find him out riding. His rides in the wind would set him free. Michael had a love for movies. His favorite movie was the “Bucket List”. Michael also had a list and worked hard to complete it, leaving a few of those journeys for his family to complete for him.
Michael loved and was loved by so many and, his infectious smile will be greatly missed. He knew that this life was only temporary and left a very lasting legacy behind. The words that Michael would have wanted his friends and loved ones to be left with were “Always and Forever; until we meet again”.
