Elsie R. Urbatsch
December 26, 1932 - January 6, 2019

Place of Birth : Paisley Brook, Saskatchewan
Residence : Williston, North Dakota
Age : 87

Elsie Urbatsch, 87 of Williston, passed away at her daughter’s home in Tioga on Sunday morning, January 6, 2019, under the care of Hospice.

Elsie Rebecca Merwin was born December 26, 1932 in Paisley Brook area in Big Beaver, Saskatchewan to King Edward and Clara Anna (Masters) Merwin. Elsie was raised at Paisley Brook until the 3rd grade, then moved to Redstone, Montana through the 8th grade. From there she moved to Outlook, Montana and graduated high school and onto college where she took up bookkeeping.

Elsie married Kenneth Urbatsch and on April 11, 1952, they united in marriage in Culbertson, Montana. After marrying, they moved to Williston, North Dakota and called it home for the next 67 years.

Elsie (aka Goose) was a bookkeeper for Landwehr Plumbing. She bartended at Buster’s Bar, Larry’s Bar (Her son Irving owned it) and Walt’s Lounge. She waitressed at the Bungalow, Steakburger, and Husky. Another job she worked was at Singer where she learned how to put a patch on clothing and sew a straight line. She also worked side by side with dad in the oil fields.

She had many hobbies and pastimes, which included being a member of the Moose and American Legion. She enjoyed fishing with her family and friends.

In later years, both mom and dad became home bodies. Their yard was always perfect, mom would even set her alarm to go off in the middle of the night so she could go out and move her water. She loved her flowers (especially her petunias) and took extra time to care for them. She also made sure the birds and squirrels had food and fresh water and would feed the pheasants that would come up to the house.

Mom loved when family and friends would stop by. The first thing she would say is “Let’s go to Lonnie’s for lunch.” Mom had an infectious smile and you could see it all the time.

Elsie’s brother would lead the horse to school each day that carried her and 2 brothers, 3 miles. Two years ago Paisley Brook was having their 100 anniversary of the school and they invited Elsie and cousin Eddie Millard to the shin dig because they were the only two students still living. The school closed 60 years ago.
Mom started giving blood in September of 1966. Her last month of giving blood was in October 2018. She was one unit shy of 34 gallons. She had 2 large red and white teddy bears with all her blood pins on them. She called them her “Blood Sucking Bears”.
