Voyle Grindeland, the son of Edwin and Wilda (Riveland) Grindeland, was born May 19, 1935 on the family farm in Divide County, North Dakota. Voyle was baptized at East Writing Rock Church, confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Fortuna, and attended Writing Rock School.

From 1959 until 1961 Voyle served with the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged as an E5.

After returning to the states Voyle did some construction work before returning to the family homestead. He farmed for himself and also worked for various farmers in the area. After leaving the farm, Voyle worked as a mechanic for fifteen years for Koch. Thereafter, he drove truck for many years.

Rebuilding old tractors, and basically working on anything with a motor, was a joy for Voyle and brought him a sense of accomplishment. He enjoyed driving his rebuilt tractors in the Crosby Threshing Bee.

He was a member of the Williston Moose Lodge and the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps.

Voyle married Ellen Eriksmoen on November 22, 1963 and they had 4 children: Kevin, Colleen, Keith and Curt. The couple later divorced.

Voyle is survived by his children, Kevin (Candess) Grindeland of Williston; Colleen Scholpp of Lampman, Saskatchewan, Canada; Keith (Vicki) Grindeland of Kenmare, ND, and Curt (Jessica) Grindeland of Kenmare. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Josh, Kyle, Kody, Kirk, Timothy, Julie, Chloe, Jamison, Jaxson, and Jonathon; great-grandchildren, Keenan; sisters, Marlene Snow of Colorado, Ardis (Steve) Joraanstad of Crosby, and Doris (Jerry) Stromstad of Fortuna; his brother, Harley Grindeland of Williston; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Wilda.

Friends may call at the church on Tuesday for the hour preceding the service.

The Everson Funeral Home of Williston is caring for the family.
